Wed, Jan 11, 2023 -  Free Class on Landscaping with Native Plants

Planting native plants instead of introduced plants from other parts of the world is part of Green Gardening. This is especially true now that we know how dependent birds are on the caterpillars which feed only on native plants. Please come to this free in-person class given by Diane Emerson on  Wed, January 11th at the Vashon Island Land Trust Building

 from 6:30 – 8:00 pm

The class is  sponsored by the Vashon Maury Island Land Trust,  www.vashonlandtrust.org
Limited Space. Registration is Required

New Videos on Rainwater/Stormwater Solutions

Vashon Nature Center has created a Water Wellness Toolbox.  Inside the Toolbox are tips and resources created by Garden Green, on the Stewardship Page

Rainwater! In our climate, we seem to have either too little of it or too much of it. These videos were created to help you manage it in both cases, and help Puget Sound and our salmon. Take a look!  Part 1 covers rainwater harvesting, green roofs, and rain gardens:  Click here.

Part 2 covers ways to deal with excess stormwater using on-site stormwater systems. Click here to view it.

These videos  and the Water Wellness Toolbox were funded by the King County Wastewater Treatment Division in Partnership with the Vashon Nature Center, www.vashonnaturecenter.org. The content herein does not constitute an endorsement by King County government, its employees, or its elected and appointed officials.

About Garden Green

Welcome to Garden Green! https://gardengreen.org/

A place to come learn about common garden pesticides, and safer alternatives to their use. We can also help you find ways to control stormwater on your property with a wide range of solutions. Many of those solutions will provide beauty and other benefits to your garden. For a limited time, if you are on the Vashon Sewer District, we can come out to your property to consult with you on these topics for free. If you are on the Sewer District and are interested in a free visit, contact Michael Laurie at mlaurie@mindspring.com.

Thanks for visiting. Take a look around, and stop back regularly, as we will continue to add resources, reports, and more reference information.  Our work focuses on the Pacific Northwest, but many of the resources you will find here are useful globally.
